Damien, the Curious Dog
Dans une grande ferme, il y a Damien, un chien très curieux.
Il adore écouter les histoires des autres animaux.
Mais Damien se mêle de tout !
Chaque jour, il prend du temps pour espionner et tout raconter.
On a big farm lives Damien, a very curious dog.
He loves listening to the other animals’ stories.
But Damien gets into everything!
Every day, he spends his time spying and telling everyone what he hears.
Un matin, il vient vers l’étable et entend Marguerite, la vache italienne, chuchoter avec Bertrand, le mouton.
« J’ai perdu ma cloche ! » dit Marguerite.
Damien bondit entre eux :
« J’ai bien entendu ! Je vais la chercher ! »
Il va courir dans le champ, va fouiller sous le bois… mais il ne trouve rien.
One morning, he walks over to the barn and hears Marguerite, the Italian cow, whispering to Bertrand the sheep.
« I’ve lost my bell! » says Marguerite.
Damien jumps between them:
« I heard that! I’ll go find it! »
He runs through the field, searches under the woodpile… but he doesn’t find a thing.
Plus tard, près du poulailler, il regarde Cocotte, la poule hawaïenne, qui parle tout bas à ses amies.
« J’ai pondu un œuf en or… mais c’est un secret ! »
Damien ne patiente pas.
« Un œuf en or ? Je vais bien le montrer à tout le monde ! »
Il bondit, renverse les paniers et… découvre un œuf bien jaune, mais pas en or !
Later, near the chicken coop, he watches Cocotte, the Hawaiian hen, whispering to her friends.
« I laid a golden egg… but it’s a secret! »
Damien can’t wait.
« A golden egg? I’m going to show it to everyone! »
He jumps up, knocks over the baskets, and… finds a very yellow egg, but definitely not gold!
Ensuite, il va vers l’étang et écoute Gaston, le canard, qui parle avec Noisette, le lapin canadien.
« Ce soir, je vais me cacher pour faire une bonne blague au fermier ! »
Damien ne peut pas attendre et va raconter tout au fermier.
Le soir, Gaston se cache, mais le fermier le trouve immédiatement.
Sa blague est bien ratée !
Les animaux en ont assez.
« Damien, tu deviens trop curieux ! » dit Marguerite.
« Tu écoutes bien tout, tu racontes tout, et tu ne laisses jamais les surprises arriver ! »
Then, he heads over to the pond and listens to Gaston the duck talking with Noisette, the Canadian rabbit.
« Tonight, I’m going to hide and play a great prank on the farmer! »
Damien just can’t wait — he rushes off to tell the farmer everything.
That evening, Gaston hides… but the farmer finds him right away.
His prank is completely ruined!
The animals have had enough.
« Damien, you’re getting way too curious! » says Marguerite.
« You listen to everything, you tell everything, and you never let surprises happen! »
Alors, pour lui donner une bonne leçon, les animaux préparent un faux secret…
Un soir, Bertrand, le mouton ancien, dit tout près de Damien :
« Demain matin, une énorme surprise va bien arriver ! »
Damien dresse ses oreilles :
« Une surprise ?! »
So, to teach him a good lesson, the animals come up with a fake secret…
One evening, Bertrand, the old sheep, says just loud enough for Damien to hear:
« Tomorrow morning, a huge surprise is coming! »
Damien perks up his ears:
« A surprise?! »
Toute la nuit, il ne dort pas.
Il va courir partout, il va chercher sous le foin, il va creuser derrière le poulailler, il va regarder dans la mare… mais il ne trouve rien !
All night long, he doesn’t sleep.
He runs everywhere, looks under the hay, digs behind the chicken coop, and checks the pond… but he doesn’t find a thing!
Le matin, épuisé, il tombe au milieu de la ferme.
Tous les animaux rient bien fort !
« La surprise, c’est qu’il n’y a pas de surprise ! »
Damien comprend la leçon.
Il va promettre de ne plus rien répéter.
Mais… il reste bien curieux quand même !
Après tout, un chien doit bien observer, non ?
In the morning, exhausted, he collapses in the middle of the farm.
All the animals burst out laughing!
« The surprise is… there is no surprise! »
Damien learns his lesson.
He promises never to repeat anything again.
But… he’s still very curious!
After all, a dog has to keep an eye on things, right?
